Cold climate gardeners, and rose lovers alike, have the Agriculture Canada Experimental Farm located in Morden, Manitoba to thank for developing this tough, hardy series of own root roses, that put most fussy hybrid tea roses and floribundas to shame. The Parkland Series was developed through selective breeding of hardy roses by Agriculture and Agri-Food of Canada (AAFC), from the late 1960's through the 1990's. Over 16 unique and hardy roses were developed and trial tested, including such popular roses as Morden Blush rose, Morden Sunrise rose and Morden Centennial rose. In addition to the Parkland Series of roses, Agriculture and Agri-Food of Canada (AAFC) is also responsible for the development of the Explorer Series of roses which were developed in the late 1970's, and named after Canadian explorers.
