How to Grow Oriental Lilies:


Oriental lilies are the most fragrant of hardy perennial lilies and include some of the most popular lilies such as Stargazer Lily, Casa Blanca Lily and Tom Pouce Lily.

Not only are Oriental lilies revered for their fragrance and showy flowers, gardeners love them for their toughness. These tough showy plants, once established in your garden will continue to perform for you year after year with little care. Tips for Growing Oriental Lilies:

  • Lilies look best when planted in groups of odd numbers of plants such as groups of 3, 5 or 7. By grouping Oriental lilies the flower show has maximum impact. You can group several complimentary lilies together to produce a unique display of color.  bulbs for maximum color impact.

  3. Dig a hole 4 inches to 6 inches deep. Space the lily bulbs 6 to 10 inches apart.
  4. Place the lilies in the hole with the roots pointing downward. Cover with soil and water well.
  5. Fertilize lilies monthly with 4-8-4 Down to Earth organic fertilizer starting when the shoots begin to emerge. Tall lilies should be staked and protected from high winds. Mulch well to keep lily roots cool.
  6. Remove blooms when they die to prevent seedpod formation. Cut stems off at ground level after they turn brown, but never cut them down while the leaves are still
