Can you ever have too many coneflowers in the garden? We say no! We went nuts over this new, hardy and large coneflower, Echinacea 'Flame Thrower' PPAF. A very dependable reblooming coneflower that
produces red-hot, bi-color orange and yellow flowers. As with all coneflowers, Flame Thrower is very cold hardy and deer resistant; an added bonus with this coneflower is its very fragrant flowers.

One of the earliest coneflowers to bloom at our farm and nursery in Oregon, which is a USDA Hardiness zone 5. This large echinacea makes a statement in the garden with large 3 inch - 4 inch blooms. A sizeable perennial at 40 inches tall, use Flame Thrower in the middle or the back of the perennial garden.

Echinacea Flame Thrower Planting Tips:

  1. When planting Flame Thrower make sure you leave enough room for it to grow up to its mature size. Dig your planting hole 6 inches deep for a 1 gallon container and leave 18 inches on either side for future growth.
  2. Do not cutback in the fall, rather leave the seed heads intact for wild birds to use as food in the winter.
  3. Fertilize once in the spring and again in the summer with a slow release, low nitrogen organic fertilizer.
  4. Plant with Heuchera Georgia Peach which grows to 22 inches tall for the look shown in the picture above.
