Burgundy Iceberg Rose
Hardy to zone 4, this deep purple rose lives up to the Iceberg name in floriferous blooms and hardiness!
This reliable, easy care rose grown on its own root produces deep purple colored flowers with lighter reverse and dark burgundy red stamens and anthers. In cooler locations in the garden, the mature Burgundy Iceberg rose will produce flowers with blue-purple undertones; in warmer high humidity areas, flowers tend to have a red or pink cast to them. A compact grower reaching only 3 feet in height and width, Burgundy Iceberg is ideal for plating in groups of three or more to create a flowering hedge. Grow this rose for its blooms and for its foliage; bright green, semi-glossy leaves act as a pleasing backdrop to the blooms. Burgundy Iceberg is a mildly fragrant and reblooming rose that works well as a cut flower for bouquets. Shop for Burgundy Iceberg rose.
How to Grow Burgundy Iceberg Rose
First discovered in Australia, Burgundy Iceberg, as with all own root roses, is easy to grow and care for. Here are a few tips to successfully growing Burgundy Iceberg:
Choose a full sun location with well-drained soil. If your soil is heavy, or clay amend first by double digging the area and adding in organic compost or soil amendments such as Green Sand.
Dig a planting hole 2 inches larger than the container size of the rose.
Remove the rose from the container and very slight 'fluff' up the roots.
If the rose has not already been pruned, remove any flower buds or blooms, and any damaged or weak stems prior to planting. Removing the flowers will help the rose to focus on establishing a good root system rather than producing flowers.
Place the Burgundy Iceberg rose in the planting hole and back-fill with topsoil to the level of the plant.
Apply slow-release organic rose fertilizer such as Down To Earth Rose and Flower around the base of the rose and gently work into the soil. Water thoroughly.
To keep Burgundy Iceberg flowering, deadhead spent flowers to prevent rose hips from forming during the season.
